We have a long-term commitment to software testing and test automation research. Our mission is to to be a active member of global software test automation research community.
We are continously partnering in jointly-funded national (TEKES) and international research (ITEA2, CELTIC, ARTEMIS, EU FP7) projects to push the testing and test automation beyond its limits. Our focus is to participate actively on applied research projects enabling fast transfers of technological results to benefit our customers.
In addition of jointly-funded research project activities we offer our customers private contract research enabling them to meet their today's and future software testing and test automation requirements. Check the Solutions and Services to learn more about our contract R&D offering.

Our research interests include, but are not limited, areas of:
- Test modeling and test specification solutions.
- Desing for Testability.
- Software test automation, test management and test reuse solutions.
- Security testing and monitoring solutions.
- Solutions for testing complex software-intensive systems.
- System integration solutions.
Past & Ongoing Research Projects
[TEKES] ATLAS
Project Title: Automated Testing for LTE-Advanced Systems
Project schedule: 1.4.2010 – 31.03.2012
Project description:The Atlas project will research and develop testing solutions for testing future LTE-Advanced -based telecommunication systems. The Atlas will developed advanced test management and automation solutions to support faster and efficient testing. The project is based on the results of the CrossNet project.
[ITEA2] EVOLVE
Project Title: Evolutionary Validation, Verification and Certification
Project schedule: 1.4.2008 – 31.3.2011
Project description: The EVOLVE project aims to creation of a methodological framework for early verification and validation of evolutionary products through the accredited/certified integration of each iteration and/or component in a MDE (Model Driven Engineering) context.
[CELTIC] Bugyo-Beyond
Project Title: Building Security Assurance in Open Infrastructures, Beyond
Project schedule: 1.11.2008 – 1.5.2011
Project description: The Buqyo-Beyond project aims to build a global continuous security assurance methodology and framework that will federate security assurance tools and techniques for evolving communication service infrastructures relying on different technologies managed by multiple entities that need to share security assurance information.
[TEKES] CrossNet
Project Title: Crosslayer Solutions and Network Support for Broadband Wireless Access
Project schedule: 1.1.2008 – 30.06.2010
Project description: In the CrossNet project VTT and University of Oulu (CWC) have developed 3GPP LTE cross-layer testing and simulation framework together with the industrial partners. The developed framework integrates existing industrial tools, EXFO Nethawk EAST simulator, M5 network analyzer and EB Propsim radio channel emulator, to support comprehensive wrap-around testing of LTE-based telecommunication systems.
[ITEA2] D-Mint
Project Title: Deployment of Model Based Techniques for Industrial Testing
Project schedule: 1.4.2008 – 31.3.2011
Project description: The D-Mint project developed and enhanced high performance model-based testing techniques that can be efficiently applied to industrial testing needs.
Awards: D-Mint project was awarded with the ITEA Exhibition Award 2009 as a most convincing presentation at the ITEA2 Symposium 2009, Madrid, Spain
[ITEA] TWINS
Project Title: Optimizing HW-SW Co-Design Flow for Software Intensive System Development
Project schedule: 1.11.2006 – 31.10.2009
Project description: The Twins project addressed co-design problems of product development consisting of integrated hardware and software development. The project addressed the issues of verification and validation of requirements and architecture models, test-case generation from requirements and/or models, and hard- and software change management and configuration management during co-design.
[TEKES] TNT
Project Title: Security Testing and Monitoring
Project schedule: 1.1.2006 – 31.12.2007
Project description: The TNT project build a uniform security testing and monitoring framework by applying testing and monitoring products, which were provided by Finnish manufacturers. The aim of the framework is to collect information about security level, observe security problems by testing and decrease effect of security vulnerabilities to critical parts of a system.
[ITEA] TT-MEDAL
Project Title: Test & Testing Methodologies for Advanced Languages
Project schedule: 1.1.2006 – 31.12.2007
Project description: The TT-Medal project developed generic automated testing methodologies and tools based on the TTCN-3, the international standardised testing language from the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) that enable systems testing from beginning to end, using common tools.
Awards: TT-Medal project was awarded with the ITEA Achievement Award 2005 for outstanding contributions to the ITEA programme.
